When are we going to lose the box kick?

What a travesty. Sorry to single you out Nic White, but this is a festering problem that has to be examined.

The clock had 1 minute and 14 seconds left on it. How hard is it to hold the ball for that long?

Think about the options: work your way up the paddock, put up a bomb, grubber it into the corner and grind it up the middle, phase by phase. Grind, grind and grind again – it’s not a marathon, it’s only 80 minutes, and you only had 1.25 to go.

The difference between a bomb and a box kick is enormous.

Generally, a box kick takes your own forwards by surprise and they have to quickly mentally regroup and get under the ball, which rarely happens. This is because the players are already in motion and the forwards are usually lifting their heads out of a ruck, maul or lineout, and have to mentally regroup. That might be an almost impossible task at the 78-minute mark.

A bomb gives everyone time to advance.

Australian rugby seems to have forgotten that you don’t only apply pressure in defence.

You also apply it in attack, by holding onto the pill and playing the phases. The more desperate they are to get it off you, the more chance they will sin.

Andre Joubert was onto the All Blacks tonight, and the Wallabies should have seen that and stayed patient. The fact that Richie McCaw played the game just inside the letter of the law showed that they were respecting the referee and were aware of the potential to give away penalties.

Not good enough by the Wallabies, especially one year out from a World Cup. There is not enough maturity being shown.

We had a game plan, tonight, to run the ball. We gave it up when the chips were down. I am a fan of Nic White, but I can’t see why Ewen put him on the field and broke up the momentum that we had.
