MATCH RESULT:

There were some close chances, and the game could have gone either way, but Melbourne City and the Newcastle Jets share the points with a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon.

City still have a lot to work on upfront when you’ve got a World Cup winner missing 10 shots in the first half.

Newcastle will return to the Hunter region with a story to tell. Completely underestimated, they made headlines with their first goal of the game.

FINAL SCORE:
Melbourne City 1
Newcastle Jets 1

MATCH PREVIEW:

The Newcastle Jets will face a more immense challenge than their do-or-die F3 Derby that took place last Saturday when they travel to face Melbourne City at AAMI Park on Sunday. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 3:00pm (AEDT).

The Jets looked to start their season high-flying with a new look squad and coaching staff they believed would cater for the loss of Socceroos Adam Taggart and Joshua Brillante.

Losing their first choice of replacement for coach Gary Van Egmond, Phil Stubbins entered and made a number of new signings for the Jets including Argentinian midfielder Marco Flores from rival club, the Central Coast Mariners.

Although, the Jets are completely under the flight-radar when their off-season is compared to that of the refurbished Melbourne City, who have made headlines world-wide with their dual signing of David Villa and Damien Duff from European powerhouses.

Melbournians will bring high hopes to AAMI Park for Villa to bring the game home in front of a passionate crowd after he arguably saved City from an embarrassing defeat at Allianz Stadium.

Slovenian Robert Koren looks to make his debut for City after returning from a calf injury sustained in the pre-season.

Strikers Neumann and Griffiths will look to make a greater impact than last week as they look to fulfill the noble status of departed striker Adam Taggart.

After missing the finals for the last three seasons, if the Jets want to get off the runway before it’s too late, this looks to be the chance.

Although, with a strong home crowd and enough motivation gained from Round 1, City already look to have this one in the bag.

Prediction:
2-1 City
