Roar Guru
An unlikely 3-2 win for Perth sees them on top of the A-League after two games. It didn’t look pretty but they’ll be happy after coming from behind twice to beat reigning premiers Brisbane.
Where to next for Brisbane? They were much improved on last week but couldn’t put the game to bed which is always dangerous in Perth.
FINAL SCORE:
Perth Glory 3
Brisbane Roar 2
The Perth Glory returned from the Distance Derby with all three points, while the Brisbane Roar were beaten convincingly in the first round of the A-League, both sides will be looking to improve when they meet in Perth on Sunday. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 5:00pm (AEDT).
Kenny Lowe has rebuilt his squad and is looking to impose a free-flowing footballing philosophy on the Glory in his first full season in charge. They certainly got off to the best start possible last week against the Phoenix.
Perth, the league’s oldest club, have never quite lived up to their potential in the 10 years of the A-League, could this be the year that glory returns to the west?
The Roar on the other hand looked a shadow of the side that won the league so convincingly last season against a classy Adelaide side.
Don’t think for a moment the Glory haven’t watched the tape of the Roar being outplayed and out-muscled by the resurgent Reds.
Of course Brisbane will be without Matt McKay, who pays the price for running his mouth, serving the first of a two-game suspension. Adam Sarota comes back into the squad along with Kofi Danning.
Without doubt, the biggest loss for Brisbane is the absence of Michael Theo, who will remain on the sidelines for at least another two months.
The Glory look to be unchanged from the side that beat Wellington. New signings Youssouf Hersi, Andy Keogh, Richard Garcia and Diogo Ferreira, along with ex-Roar midfielder Mitch Nichols, will be looking to impress fans in the Glory’s first home game of the season.
For so long the competition benchmark, is this the season the rest of the A-League catch-up to Brisbane? Expect Perth to be tough to beat in the west and inflict more pain on the reigning champions.
