The Group 1 Caulfield Cup was run and won on the weekend. Here is the runner-by-runner analysis of the 2400-metre, $3,000,000 race.

Admire Rakti (8)
Was one of the slower ones out of the gates and settled near the rear, one off the fence. Started to work forward mid-race going around a few three wide and found a spot mid-field, one off the fence. Started to work further forward at the 600-metre mark, three wide and was the widest runner straightening around the bend, laid down a huge finish and flew past most of the field for a very impressive win, looks like he will play a huge role in the Melbourne Cup.

Green Moon (6)
Was slow to begin and settled near the rear on the rail inside Admire Rakti, stayed back for most of the race until runs started opening up on the rail. He flew up and improved his position around the bend to be in behind Rising Romance, was still pretty close in the straight and boxed on well, big improvement on last start and looks well overs in the Cup market. Finished mid field.

Sea Moon (21)
Began ok, didn’t cross at all from the wide barrier for a long time, finally crossed over and worked forward to take up the lead which would of expanded a lot of energy early. Run started to fade when turning and every runner went past him. Finished last.

The Offer (19)
Began ok but went back to near last from the wide gate and was four wide, was shuffled back to last mid-race. Made a move at the 600-metre line and was really wide turning and still well back from the leaders, finished off relatively well down the straight and finished mid-field.

Jockey, Tommy Berry was pretty happy with how he travelled considering the wide barrier and a tempo that didn’t suit.

Seismos (1)
Began well and drove up from the inside barrier to settle in behind the speed on the rail, dropped back to be about mid-field at the half way point, still on the rail. Dropped off even further turning and was poor down the straight to finish in the back half of the field.

Hawkspur (9)
Was crowded on jumping and settled at the rear, three wide outside Admire Rakti. Pushed forward mid-race and was second, one off the fence outside Brambles, was still there turning and moved out three wide in the straight and boxed on well to finish eighth.

Junoob (15)
Was slowish to begin and settled in behind the speed, four wide with cover, ended up sitting fourth, one off the fence most of the trip. Was four wide when turning and was overtaken by a few, finished off ok and ran seventh.

Moriarty (7)
Was away well and settled behind the speed inside Junoob, ended up three wide most of the trip but had cover, started run at the 600-metre mark and came really wide turning, didn’t offer much up the straight and finished in the back half of the field, maybe lacks the class of a few of these at 2400m.

Who Shot Thebarman (16)
Began ok and worked forward from the wide barrier to settle near the front, three wide. Moved up to Rising Romance to share second, one off the fence. Was near the front turning but didn’t handle the tight turn and went quite wide and never really wound up in the straight. Finished 12th, not suited to Caulfield.

Stipulate (5)
Began ok, settled in behind the speed outside of Seismos, was held up a bit in the straight and finished off pretty well for 11th.

Lidari (4)
Began well and pushed forward to be one back, one off the fence. Started move at 600m and was four wide turning, boxed on well up the straight to finish sixth.

Lucia Valentina (12)
Began ok but went back to the rear of the field, three wide. Started working forward at the 600-metre mark and was really wide turning. Flew home for third in what was a great run, will go much better down the long straight at Flemington.

Rising Romance (17)
Was fastest out of the barriers and crossed from the wide alley to lead. Ended up inside Junoob most of the trip on the rail and cornered well hugging the rail, the run opened up and he dashed through to take the lead again in the straight, was run down late for second. Great run.

Big Memory (20)
Began ok, settled last, three wide. Still well back turning inside The Offer and was pretty good up the straight passing a few to finish mid-field. Solid run from a horrid barrier.

Brambles (11)
Was bumped on jumping but pushed forward to settle at the front, one off the rail, moved up past Rising Romance to lead, was still there turning and fought on well up the straight to finish fourth. Solid run.

Araldo (18)
Was slowish to begin and settled last, one off the fence. Worked into race well around the bend and found inside runs up the straight. Finished really well for fifth.

Unchain My Heart (14)
Slow to begin and settled last on the rail, was still last turning and didn’t offer much up the straight, finished second last. Just making up the numbers.

Renew (2)
Began well and settled mid-field, one off the fence. Was never really a factor in the race and finished third last.
