Jane praises Hayne for trying a new game

All Blacks winger Cory Jane is jealous of Jarryd Hayne’s decision to pursue an American Football career and wonders if it might start a trend.

Jane, who admits he loves watching NFL more than rugby, says standout NRL fullback Hayne has done what a lot of his peers are too wary to do.

Hayne jettisoned a lucrative rugby league career this month to chase his NFL dream, a high-risk move given the cut-throat US professional environment.

“I’d love to put some pads on and run a couple of routes,” Jane said.

“Everyone’s too scared to make a run at it, except for Jarryd Hayne.

“Hopefully he does well. And then who knows what’s going to happen? They (other players) might start looking that way.”

Jane, at 32, is unlikely to make a late career switch.

It didn’t stop the resident All Blacks comedian turning to the cameras at a press conference in Chicago ahead of their Test against the United States and selling himself to his favourite team.

“Tennessee Titans, if you’re there, give me a bloody call and we’ll suss something out.”

All Blacks coach Steve Hansen says NFL has never had the impact on his methods which other leading rugby coaches have hailed.

However, he says Australian league coaching great Wayne Bennett learned plenty from numerous trips to NFL franchises.

He says Bennett is second only to his father Des as the most influential person in his coaching career, making it obvious that the NFL has plenty to offer other codes.

It won’t prompt Hansen to watch a game with his players.

“I never have three hours to spare to sit down and watch it.”
