RACE PREVIEW:

With less than a week’s turnaround, the 2014 Formula One championship continues as only two races remain now for the title to be decided. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 3:00am (AEDT).

24 points separate Mercedes AMG teammates and championship rivals Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, as the former accumulated his tenth victory of the season last time out in Austin, Texas.

For Rosberg now, this will be a must-win race. Although mathematically the championship can only be decided at the end of the Abu Dhabi race, the German has to close the gap on his teammate in order to remain in with a realistic shot.

Only recently the Interlagos circuit in São Paulo has undergone some resurfacing, along with the reconstruction of the pit lane entry, which over the years has seen many drivers cutting across it. The new surface will be interesting to see how the tyres behave on, and of course the weather always is a factor for every Brazilian Grand Prix.

Indeed the weather has been forecast to have rain and thunderstorms over the race weekend.

That opens up the possibility of seeing mixed results, but for now it would be Mercedes AMG who would be the favourites to lock out the top two positions.

The weather could play into someone like Sauber’s hands who agonisingly lost the opportunity to contest for their first points of the season last weekend out in Austin, after Adrian Sutil was tagged and taken out of the race by Sergio Perez on the first lap.

Red Bull have had a good car around Interlagos too, over the last few years along with Ferrari. Unlike Ferrari, Red Bull have no threat to their position in the constructors’ championship, and can pretty much race to their strengths.

Ferrari on the other hand says that they’re wary of McLaren who are 49 points behind them. Rather interestingly, the Brazilian Grand Prix was the scene of McLaren’s last victory; in 2012 with Jenson Button who triumphed in the wet.

Will this be the race then that Rosberg claws his way back into a reasonable position in the championship? Or will he end up hoping for the double points to push him over the line in Abu Dhabi.

Please join us here on The Roar from the rather early time of 2:30am on Monday as we build up to the start of the penultimate race of the season.
