The structure and schedule for the 2015 Women’s Ashes series has been announced today, with the Test match to be played in the middle of the one day and Twenty20 series.

The Women’s Ashes is unique in cricket, as it features a points format that is played across three ODIs, a four-day Test match and three Twenty20 internationals.

England are the current holders of the Women’s Ashes, after they won the Test match, but lost the two limited overs series.

This time, the Test match will only be worth four points, compared to 2013’s six. So if this points structure was played in the last Ashes, it would have been a drawn series. So far, Australia have claimed seven Ashes wins, England six, with seven draws in the 20 times it has been contested.

The one-off Test match will be played in Canterbury, with the series starting with the ODI series on July 21. To finish, the T20 series will begin in Essex and conclude in Cardiff on August 31.

Australian skipper Meg Lanning praised the format, and said the Aussies were already licking their lips at the prospect of travelling to the UK to play the old enemy.

“The multi-format series has been a great success and we are looking forward to another competitive series against England and will be doing everything in our power to win back the Women’s Ashes.”
