The North Queensland Cowboys are searching for a new chief executive after Peter Jourdain announced he will end his four year stint at the NRL club.

Jourdain will remain at the club until a replacement is found.

Cowboys staff and players were told of Jourdain’s decision on Wednesday, the first day of pre-season training at the NRL club.

Jourdain had held the Cowboys reins for four years, taking over when Peter Parr returned to the role of football manager.

Cowboys chairman Laurence Lancini said Jourdain reassessed his future after the 2014 season concluded for the club in September when North Queensland were defeated in the semi-finals.

Lancini said Jourdain – who was initially signed on a three-year deal – would be remembered fondly.

“We agreed that for 2015 and beyond, Peter would move back home to Sydney and the club would look to immediately recruit a new CEO to continue the momentum of ensuring we have a winning team and a great club,” Lancini said.

“Peter has done a very good job during his tenure as CEO of the Cowboys and, in particular, has grown the commercial and community aspects of the club.

“He has brought a strong financial discipline to our club and has helped grow revenues and membership during the past four years.”
