MATCH RESULT:

Brisbane Roar have picked up their first win of the season in emphatic fashion – knocking over the Newcastle Jets, 4-0.

After a scoreless first half, the Jets provided minimal resistance to the Roar with Henrique coming off the bench to score a brilliant hat-trick.

Newcastle remain winless and have some real soul searching to do while Brisbane will take some confidence from the win – though they were still far from convincing.

The defending A-League champions have looked anything but a championship wining side in the opening rounds of the A-League season.

After losing some key players in the off season, the Roar have looked average at best and will desperately need to string some victories together if they are to defend their title.

Newcastle on the other hand, have had the second hardest start to the season in terms of their travel commitments.

The Newcastle based side have had to play their opening month of football away from their home ground of Hunter Stadium and looked rejuvenated last week despite only grabbing a point from Kevin Muscat’s victory.

For the Roar, their goalkeeper Jamie Young must find some form and confidence in between the sticks. With large boots to fill, Young has been out of his depth since arriving to replace an injured Michael Theo and will need to improve on his recent performances if his side is to grab their first win of the season.

Conversely, former Socceroo David Carney will be looking to terrorise the Brisbane defence with his near perfect deliveries. Carney has completed the most crosses so far this season for any team and should his deliveries continue, the Brisbane defence could be in for a long night.

Playing at home for only the second time this season, the Jets should prove too much for the Roar who will struggle.

Prediction: Jets 2-0 Roar
