Super-sub Henrique scored a hat-trick and set up Brisbane’s other goal as the defending A-League champions finally got on the board for the 2014-15 season with a 4-0 win over Newcastle at Hunter Stadium.

Without a competition point heading into the round-six game on Friday night, the Roar dominated a lacklustre Jets in the second half after an uninspiring first period from both sides.

Henrique, who came on in the 36th minute for an injured Jean Carlos Solorzano, put Brisbane ahead just over 10 minutes later.

A great ball from Luke Brattan put Shane Stefanutto into the clear on the left before his cross found the unmarked Brazilian in front of goal.

The Roar should have gone further ahead in the 61st minute after Ben Kantarovski was penalised for a foul on Thomas Broich, but Dimitri Petratos’s poor strike from the spot was well saved by Mark Birighitti.

Brisbane made no mistake five minutes later when Henrique was part of a beautiful one-two move with Steven Lustica, who then put away his one-on-one chance.

Henrique made it 3-0 with a spectacular strike in the 72nd minute, curling his right-foot shot from the top of the penalty area just inside the right post.

He repeated the dose from a few metres closer to goal in the 89th minute, wrong-footing the scrambling Jets defence before again beating Birighitti with a shot inside the far post.

The performance helped ease the pressure on Brisbane, who started the season with four losses.

The defeat was the Jets’ fourth of the campaign and left them sitting on two points from six matches.
