Failure fills Flores with hopes for Jets

It’s rare to see Marcos Flores be anything but positive.

Even when he tore his ACL with Central Coast at the start of the year, the 2011 Johnny Warren Medallist kept his chin up.

So it’s surprising to hear him view his A-League career as something of a failure.

“The highlights, the good times I have had come surrounded by club and team success,” said the Argentine, who is now with his fourth A-League club, Newcastle.

“But the three seasons I have been with different clubs have been filled with failure.

“I have failed three times because I have finished third (with Adelaide 2010-11; Melbourne Victory 2012-13 and Central Coast 2013-14).

Given the Jets sit ninth after just two draws in their opening six matches of the season, third might be something to aim for this year but Flores is not letting himself get too downbeat.

A non-starter in their 4-0 last up loss to Brisbane Roar after being rested by coach Phil Stubbins, Flores insists his knee is fine and he’s fit.

“I’m feeling good, full of hope,” Flores said.

“I’m trying every day to turn things around and personally I am embracing every day and feel blessed to be running and healthy and trying to enjoy my football.”

He’s confident that a change is on its way at the Jets too.

“When you don’t win, it’s tough to have a smile, but I am enjoying challenging myself to be better every day and that is how one day we will make the result come through, so we can smile more often,” he said.

“We are struggling a little bit, but the league offers you the finals and in 26 rounds if you make it you are capable to win the championship.

“Until the math does push us out I will keep believing that we will make it.”
