Three tries helped South Africa to a 22-6 win over Italy on Saturday at Stadio Euganeo in the hosts’ final Test of the November series.

Coenraad Oosthuizen, Jacobuns Reinach and Bryan Habana scored five-pointers for the Springboks.

Patrick Lambie weighed in with a penalty and second-half replacement Handre Pollard converted two of the tries.

All of Italy’s points came from the boot of Kelly Haimona.

Italy defended bravely and had their scrum to thank for keeping the score down as the Azzurri struggled to get out of their own half for most of the match.

South Africa had never lost to Italy, winning all 11 previous encounters, including the last in Durban by 44-10 last year.

The Springboks have two wins from their northern hemisphere tour, having followed a 29-15 defeat to Ireland in Dublin with a stirring 31-28 win last week over England at Twickenham.

Italy finished the series with two defeats, having beaten Samoa 24-13 and losing 20-18 last week to Argentina.
