Chief selector Rod Marsh is set to shed more light on Michael Clarke’s chances of playing the opening Test against India.

Clarke on Monday is tipped to be included in Australia’s squad for the opening chapter of the four-Test series against India, starting on December 4 in Brisbane.

The 33-year-old is recovering from a third hamstring setback since August, with physiotherapist Alex Kountouris noting the chronic nature of the injury and Clarke’s age are risk factors.

Cricket Australia is yet to announce a deadline for the hamstrung skipper to prove his fitness for the Test.

Clarke is listed to bat for his Sydney club Western Suburbs on Saturday. If he is unable to do that, then a line is likely to be struck through his name.

Marsh met his selection panel over the weekend in Sydney.

The legendary wicketkeeper will front the media at 11am (AEDT) on Monday to discuss the make-up of the squad.

Despite three weeks of much conjecture following the woeful 2-0 Test series loss to Pakistan, Marsh is expected to spring few surprises.

Wicketkeeper Brad Haddin has overcome a right shoulder injury and will captain NSW in this week’s Sheffield Shield clash with South Australia.

Haddin is likely to be appointed Test skipper if Clarke’s bold bid to play the first Test fails.

Possible 13-man Test squad:

Chris Rogers, David Warner, Shane Watson, Michael Clarke (capt), Steve Smith, Mitch Marsh, Brad Haddin, Mitchell Johnson, Ryan Harris, Peter Siddle, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood, Shaun Marsh.
