MATCH RESULT:

The name on every Manchester City’s fans lips is yet again Aguero. He won them the Premier League title several seasons back with a great late goal and another late goal here from the Argentine secures a victory at the death against Bayern Munich.

City are now in second position on the ladder and a win against Roma would secure qualification to the next round.

Bayern with some poor errors at the back to gift Aguero opportunities and the Argentine made them pay dearly with three goals. Champions League drama and City this time on the right end of it!

FINAL SCORE:
Manchester City 3
Bayern Munich 2

MATCH PREVIEW:

Anything less than a win tonight against Bayern Munich will ensure another disappointing Champions League exit for Manchester City. Can the Premier League giants keep their European dream alive? Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 6:45am (AEDT).

City’s hopes of progressing past the group stages of the Champions League hit a brick wall after their disappointing 2-1 home defeat to CSKA Moscow on Match Day 4.

That result leaves City with just 2 points out of a possible 12 in their group – a poor return for a team blessed with the roster required to push the very best teams in Europe.

As it stands, City must defeat Bayern to keep their faint Champions League hopes alive. Bayern however are in ominous form to say the least and have already tasted success playing at the Etihad last season.

Bayern also sent an ominous warning to the rest of their rivals by crushing Roma on both Match Day 3 and 4. They are playing efficient and clinical football and will be hard to topple tonight.

City though need to take a stand and come out with strong intensity. They have the players to challenge Bayern and to perhaps secure a much needed victory at home that should lift confidence.

Sergio Aguero will need to have a large say if City hope to secure three vital points. The Argentine has been one of the few bright sparks for the sky blues, scoring 12 goals in just as many matches in the Premier League.

His goal scoring return in the Champions League however is not as impressive and Aguero will need to rectify that tonight against Bayern. That may be easier said than done though given that City are without some class players in Yaya Toure (suspension) and David Silva (injury).

Overall, it will take a mighty effort from the hosts to secure the win tonight. Another slow start from City however and the likes of Mario Gotze, Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski will wreck havoc for the German champions.
