Carlton draftee Blaine Boekhorst has probably earned his first players’ fine before he even sets foot inside the AFL club.
And his first conversation with coach Mick Malthouse will be fascinating.
A frustrated Twitter post from earlier this year has remarkably come back to haunt Boekhorst.
The Blues sprung a surprise in Thursday night’s national draft by using their first pick at No.19 to recruit the 21-year-old.
The Swan Districts midfielder stood out as a mature-age selection in a draft dominated by teenagers.
But social media being what it is, there was soon a much more humorous element to Boekhorst becoming a Blue.
Boekhorst had not hold back on Twitter when Collingwood were on the way to beating Carlton by 34 points in round seven.
“How can Carlton kick 1.5 in a half? Disgusting display of footy!” Boekhorst raged.
“The whole Carlton team need to go or Mick (coach Mick Malthouse) does.”
The tweet quickly disappeared from Boekhorst’s feed and a much more Blues-friendly message was posted not long after Thursday night’s draft.
“Ecstatic to be joining the @CarltonFC,” he posted.
“Love seeing them succeed and hate seeing the downside! Always followed them closely.”
