As the end of the year approaches, there’s a big weekend of racing to get through before we can dig into our Christmas presents.

The Hong Kong internationals return this Sunday and it’s sure to produce some cracking races.

Hong Kong Vase
Flintshire was a brave second to Treve in the Prix de l’Arc Triomphe before finishing second again in the Breeders’ Cup Turf.

He has thrived since arriving in Hong Kong and was impressive in track work this week. Red Cadeaux won this race two years ago and showed he was back to his best with his runner-up effort in the Melbourne Cup.

Empoli wasn’t far away in the Dubai Sheema Classic earlier this year and will appreciate getting back on top of the ground.

Hong Kong Sprint
Lucky Nine and Sterling City were both luckless in the Jockey Club Sprint, never seeing daylight in the straight.

Buffering and Spalato will roll forward which should ensure at least a reasonable tempo to give run-on horses behind a chance. Peniaphobia best of the rest.

Hong Kong Mile
Locally-trained horses have won the last eight editions and Able Friend looks to have a mortgage on this race after putting on a dominant display last time in the Jockey Club Mile.

Although drawn awkwardly, there is a 700m run to the turn which should enable him to just settle worse than midfield before running over the top of them late.

Fiero will be near peak fitness after narrowly missing in the Mile Championship while Glorious Days seeks to go back-to-back following an identical path this preparation.

Hong Kong Cup
Military Attack resumed with an outstanding win in the Sha Tin Trophy and then was nabbed late by Blazing Speed in the Jockey Club Cup.

Farraaj was trapped wide throughout in the Mackinnon Stakes yet he stuck on determinedly to the line. Archimedes boasts an outstanding fresh record and faces his acid test here.
