Essendon remain unsure whether they can coax legendary coach Kevin Sheedy back to the AFL club.

Chairman Paul Little said at Monday night’s club annual general meeting that he had spoken to the four-time Bombers premiership coach about a possible return.

It was revealed two months ago that Essendon wanted one of their most important figures back at the club.

After coaching Essendon from 1981 to 2007, Sheedy was in charge at Greater Western Sydney for their first two seasons and is a Giants board member.

Sheedy’s return would be a massive morale boost for Essendon as the club continues to deal with the fallout from the supplements scandal.

“A regular question I have been asked recently has been will Kevin ever return to the club,” Little said.

“Well, I can’t say he will and I can’t say he won’t.

“But what I can say is that I have met with Kevin and will continue to have discussions with him about what the future might look like.”

Little also announced that the club will hold an annual member forum, starting next year.

He said the Bombers had taken many steps to improve how the club operates as a result of lessons learned from the supplements crisis.

Little added that the club would change their contentious “opt-out” donation to an “opt-in” facility from 2016, making it easier for members to not make the payment.

The donation is part of the membership dues and some fans have seen it as funding the club’s legal costs associated with the ASADA investigation.

“Over the last two years, the opt-out donations have played an important role reducing our facility debt,” Little said.

“However, the board has listened to your feedback and believes a change is necessary and has now approved a new approach to an opt-in program starting in 2016.”
