The Adelaide Strikers and the Melbourne Stars will be the first teams out of the blocks for this year’s Big Bash League when they clash at the glorious Adelaide Oval. Join me on The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:40pm (AEDT).

It has been a long wait for fans of the domestic T20 game but finally it’s time to hit the television sets, put on your garish outfits and strap yourself in for a night of full blooded short form mayhem.

The season opener features the Adelaide Strikers taking on the Melbourne Stars will be the first BBL game at the Adelaide Oval after its complete redevelopment. It will be interesting to see if the Adelaide faithful turn out in force.

The Strikers have some key players to keep an eye on including one of the most exciting players in world cricket, Kieron Pollard. The big West Indian stated his intentions just a few days ago by smashing six sixes in an over in a recent trial match.

Crafty South African Johan Botha leads the team and always has his finger on the pulse. Big paceman Shaun Tait will be out to prove a point having stated his intention of making the World Cup squad. No doubt he will be looking to send some 150km/h thunderbolts down to the Stars batsmen.

The Stars certainly lived up to their moniker with the recent signing of one of the most famous cricketers in the world, South African born Englishman, Kevin Pietersen. Love him or hate him you can’t deny his talent and if he gets away to a good start then be prepared for some fireworks.

All Rounder James Faulkner of the Stars will be looking to impress the Australian ODI selectors and his recent limited overs form should see him in the World Cup squad.

The Stars have a host of big name players such as Cam White, David Hussey, Jackson Bird and the enigmatic Glen Maxwell who can all have an impact on the result.

With some great cricketing talent on display it is sure to be a cracking game. If Pollard and Pietersen get going it may just end up being a game for the ages.

Will Shaun Tait have his radar on or will he spray them around? Will Glen Maxwell put on a Big Show or a schoolyard pantomime?

Mark this one down as a must watch.
