LeBron James has led the resurgent Cleveland Cavaliers to an upset 105-91 victory over Western Conference heavyweights the Memphis Grizzlies.

James notched 25 points and 11 assists in the win against a Grizzlies side who struggled on Sunday without influential forward Zach Randolph.

Randolph missed the game after injuring his right knee in the Grizzlies’ Friday night loss to Chicago.

Grizzlies centre Marc Gasol refused to use the absence of Randolph and defensive guard Tony Allen as an excuse.

“We play who we have,” Gasol said. “Whoever’s not here is not here. Trust me, we have enough talent in this locker room not just to win tonight but to win the same amount of games we’ve won so far.”

While Australia’s Matthew Dellavedova didn’t get many minutes in Cleveland’s win, another young guard took centre stage, with Dion Waiters notching 13 last quarter points for the Cavaliers.

Elsewhere, Anthony Davis continued to light up the league, this time in Oklahoma City.

Davis had 38 points on 16 of 22 shooting for the New Orleans Pelicans as they achieved a rare road win over the Thunder.

The previously red-hot Thunder fell 101-99 on a night where they were again without forward Kevin Durant, who missed his second straight game with a knee injury.

His partner in crime, Russell Westbrook had a chance to win the game in the dying seconds, but his three-point attempt missed and the loss took OKC’s record without Durant to 6-13 for the season.

Luol Deng had 23 points to lead the Miami Heat to a 100-85 win over the Boston Celtics, who fell out of the Eastern conference top eight when Brooklyn sealed a tense 110-105 win over the sagging Detroit Pistons.

Indiana recorded a win over Minnesota, while Philadelphia took their third win of the season by beating the Orlando Magic 96-88 – and at the other end of the East, Toronto stretched their lead with a comfortable 108-98 win over the ailing New York Knicks, despite a 29-point game from Carmelo Anthony.

In Sacramento the Kings were boosted by DeMarcus Cousins’ return with the big man scoring 29 points to help defeat the L.A Lakers 108-101 while Phoenix also got back on track with a 104-92 win over the Washington Wizards in Washington.
