Match result

Game over: Hurricanes all out 126, Renegades 7/163

Melbourne Renegades are still alive. Stokes a great inclusion won the game for them. They certainly silenced the Hobart crowd.

Hobart once again let themselves down and couldn’t win two in a row. They believe their own publicity a bit much.
Fawad Ahmed was terrific. World class leg spin. backed up by Winter and Siddle with the ball.

No Hurricanes got going with the bat. Ben Stokes easily Man of match

The Renegades now play the Stars in another Melbourne derby. A chance to make amends for last time in another vital game.

The Hurricanes travel to Western Sydney to play the Thunder .Another vital game.

Every game is important from here on.

Match preview

Can the bottom-placed Melbourne Renegades keep themselves in the competition with a much needed win or will the Hobart Hurricanes treat their adoring fans to another batting onslaught? Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:10pm (AEDT).

At the halfway mark of the tournament the Renegades are bottom but only two points from the top four. This game is a must win though, they can’t afford to go any further behind.

CATCH UP ON THE LATEST CRICKET HIGHLIGHTS

Hobart had a slashing win at home against the Heat and would like to win two in a row, which has always been their problem.

The Renegades have been a little bit too funky with their tactics. Looking at their team they have frequently changed their bowling line-up for each game and therefore have lacked a consistent attack.

The Hurricanes replace Darren Sammy (playing for the West Indies) with English Test player Tim Bresnan. They may also revert back to a bowling allrounder in Evan Gulbis to replace Travis Birt, as the pitch at Bellerive is a belter and they need more bowling options.

The Renegades are led by Australian T20 captain Aaron Finch. He was a key in their win last year against the Hurricanes and will again need to lead from the front. The Renegades have won their last two games against Hobart and they must take confidence from this. Aiding Finch with the bat this year is South Australian recruit Callum Fergusson.

I could mount a case for Nathan Rimmington to be in the Australian World Cup squad. He is a bowling all-rounder who has had been consistent in all forms of cricket for a few seasons now. Economical with the ball he is hard to hit in limited over cricket and can provide useful runs down the order. He is the type of player a squad needs for depth in Australian conditions and while I don’t expect he will be selected, he is my smokey.

The Hurricanes’ batting was back to their best the other night and Ben Dunk and George Bailey join Jon Wells as in good form. Their attack will again be based around spin options Xavier Doherty and Cameron Boyce, who will be up against Fawad Ahmed.

Prediction
Renegades to get up as Hurricanes fail to win two in a row again.

Can Nathan Rimmington push his claim to be a World Cup squad member? Will Aaron Finch go off and blow the Hurricanes away with his power hitting? Or can Hobart find that consistent form they are seeking?
