UFC Light Heavyweight champion and pound-for-pound kingpin Jon ‘Bones’ Jones (21-1) has announced he has entered a drug treatment facility after a random drug test from the Nevada State Athletic Commission detected benzoylecgonine in his system.

Benzoylecgonine is the main metabolite of the drug cocaine.

With results being published just days after successfully defending his UFC Light Heavyweight belt against Daniel Cormier (15-1), there will be many who will question the legitimacy of his victory. However, as benzoylecgonine is not a substance banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency out of competition, the results won’t have any implications on the result of his last bout.

The UFC have released a statement regarding Jon Jones and his decision to seek the help he needs.

We support UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones’ decision to enter a drug treatment facility to address his recent issue. While we are disappointed in the failed test, we applaud him for making this decision to enter a drug treatment facility. Jon is a strong, courageous fighter inside the octagon, and we expect him to fight this issue with the same poise and diligence. We commend him on his decision, and look forward to him emerging from this program a better man as a result.

UFC President Dana While had this to say regarding the incident, showing his support for Jon Jones:

“I am proud of Jon Jones for making the decision to enter a drug treatment facility,” he stated. “I’m confident that he’ll emerge from this program like the champion he truly is.”

The Nevada State Athletic Commission have yet to release the results of the UFC 182 drug tests, but there will be many who will keep an eye and ear out for the results.
