After two Asian feasts, coach Ange Postecoglou is challenging his Socceroos to get even more greedy.
And Postecoglou reckons he and his players have the appetite for more after dining out on Kuwait and Oman in their Asian Cup campaign.
“It’s about continually evolving the team,” Postecoglou said after Australia’s 4-0 crunching of Oman on Tuesday night in Sydney.
“We believe there is a lot of improvement in this side, not just in the short term but in the longer term.
“And we will keep pressing ahead. We won’t be satisfied with where we’re at.
“We have won a couple of games of football and played some good stuff. But we want more and we will keep pushing this group of players.”
Postecoglou said Australia raised their game against Oman from the host nation’s 4-1 triumph against Kuwait in their tournament opener.
“They went up another level, as we expected. And we expect to improve as we go through the tournament,” he said.
“We made three changes and we made some early substitutions and we saw that the team didn’t miss a beat.
“We have still got improvement in us.
“And from my perspective that is what we will be emphasising to the players.
“Whatever we have done so far as been good but we can certainly get better.”
After his biggest win since taking charge in October 2013, Postecoglou bristled at suggestions the Socceroos’ opening two opponents were easy fare.
“I don’t see them as easy games,” he said.
“The way we play makes it very hard for the opposition.
“We made it hard for Oman tonight – every time they got the ball our defensive work was outstanding and when we had the ball, we just were able to move it around very quickly.
“I don’t think it’s a reflection on them as teams … I didn’t see these as easy games. We don’t underestimate anyone and we respect every nation.
“For us, our responsibility is to keep improving and keep playing the football we are playing.”
