Australia aren’t the only team playing in the tri-series currently taking place on our shores, and India and England will take up the battle at the Gabba in Brisbane.

Both England and India have started their warm-up to the World Cup with losses. While they will be disappointed, both teams should be happy with the way they fought back from tough positions. Though in England’s case it was a matter of too little, too late with their flurry of wickets at the end of Australia’s chase, they will still think they have plenty of improvement in them after having to rescue both their batting and bowling innings.

India, on the other hand, made a close game of it on Sunday evening, with Australia cruising before finding themselves six down and in a tight spot.

In these conditions, foreign to both sides, it will be a fascinating contest. You would give England the advantage in the quick bowling department, with Stuart Broad and James Anderson set to take the new ball in this match. After Mohammad Shami broke down in the match against Australia, India will need to find a replacement for him with the ball.

India’s spinners should have the advantage, with Axar Patel bowling impressively in Melbourne against Australia, and Ravi Ashwin a constant wicket-taking threat from over and around the wicket.

Where India look to have the tangible advantage. They have genuine match-winners throughout their entire top six, with Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni among the finest one day cricketers currently active in the game today.

Add the hitting power Shikhar Dhawan at the top of the order, and you have a potent mix.
