If practice makes perfect, Mathew Leckie expects the Socceroos will return to their free-scoring best for Thursday night’s Asian Cup quarter-final.

The German-based tearaway is anticipating the team’s final two training sessions before the showdown with China at Suncorp Stadium will be contain more work in front of goal.

The Socceroos fired in eight goals for their first two Asian Cup games but were held scoreless against South Korea, despite generating a wealth of chances.

“We can train (to improve) that,” Leckie said.

“Naturally we won’t be training too long because it’s only a couple of days away and it’s quite warm.

“But I’m hoping we get on (with) some shooting a bit in training.

“We’ve got quality finishers in the team, we know on another day we’ll score those goals.”

The 23-year-old’s own confidence levels, however, are not dependent on whether he can get his name on the scoresheet.

“I’d love to score but its not something in the back of my mind causing me any problems on the pitch,” Leckie said.

“I’ve been dangerous and been able to make a few runs and a few good passes and a few chances, where I hit the crossbar and put it across the face.

“It’ll come and its not something I worry about because as long as I’m making an impact I’m happy.”
