Well known Aussie charity the McGrath Foundation has gone into gaming, and gaming for good, in their latest initiative to attempt to raise more money for women suffering from breast cancer.

The McGrath Foundation Digital Cup will be the largest online cricket gaming tournament in Australia, if not the world, where users can sign up, play and donate, all for a good cause.

If you’ve ever heard of stick cricket, you’ll be pretty close to what the Foundation are doing to get you to help women with cancer all around Australia.

Users will sign up to play the game, and make a donation to the Foundation, which will go towards their push to fund 110 breast cancer nurses by 2015. It is an ambitious goal, and they’re hoping the fun and addictive nature of the game they’ve made along with developers Proactive Games will get people playing and donating.

Glenn McGrath hopes plenty of Aussies will join him online, knowing that they’re doing so for the right reasons.

“At the McGrath Foundation we don’t just like cricket, we love it! So, in our tenth anniversary year it’s exciting to be extending our cricket heritage with an awesome, online cricket tournament that anyone can play.

“I’m encouraging everyone to join me in stepping up to the digital crease for a chance to win great prizes, while raising funds for the McGrath Foundation.”

McGrath Foundation CEO Petra Buchanan says they hope to put “the ‘fun’ into fundraising, while also allowing us to reach a greater audience as gaming goes mainstream.”

The game will be available on a vast majority of browsers, both on desktop on mobile, so long as they are HTML5 compatible.

You can sign up to the tournament for unlimited practice right now, and the tournament begins on the 14th February and will run for two weeks, and coaches and players will have the opportunity to win prizes if they ‘stump up’ the most money for the cause.
