Newcastle Jets owner and recently installed Chairman Nathan Tinkler has sensationally sacked five senior Newcastle Jets players following a disastrous 7-0 loss to Adelaide United and growing player discontent.

The Jets confirmed tonight that David Carney, Billy Celeski, Joel Griffiths, Kew Jaliens and Adrian Madaschi have all been terminated – with Carney explicitly listed as being terminated for ‘disciplinary reasons’.

The extraordinary move places the Jets in complete disarray, with Football Federation Australia again facing the need to take back the license of a rogue owner at the club.

The full statement from the Jets follows:

Chairman Nathan Tinkler cited wanting to change the culture of the club as a key factor in these decisions.

“These decisions were made in the best interest of the playing group and to improve the club culture for the young players who we believe are the future of the Jets” he said.

The club would like to thank the five players for their efforts and wish them well for the next stage of their careers.
