SUPER BOWL HIGHLIGHTS, LIVE BLOG

Lead-up
Heading into the match, the contest has been shrouded in controversy and drama off the field.

It started with deflategate when 12 balls were found to be underinflated, to the regulations of the rules for pumped footballs, during the AFC Championship game between the Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts.

The NFL is currently investigating the issue but that hasn’t stopped the media from reporting on it consistently during the time.

The media have also had a field day with Marshawn Lynch, who has had two press conferences, with limited words this week.

Lynch, who plays for the Seattle Seahawks, has been fined 150,000 dollars by the NFL for failing for do a press conference in 2013 and 2014.

In order to avoid a fine during media day, Lynch arrived and answered each question with “I’m just here so I don’t get fined.”

The next day, he had to front the media again, and also answered each question with just a few words. This time his phrase was “You know why I’m here.”

To top it all off, New England quarterback Tom Brady has a cold and is trying to get over it before the match.

Thankfully, after all the off-field action, the real action is only a couple of days away.

Here is all the key information you need to know about the event.

SUPERBOWL XLIX PREVIEW

Head to Head since 2001 – New England 2 Seattle 1
Last meeting: October 14 2012 – Seattle 24 New England 23
Odds: Seattle 1.91 New England 1.91

Heading into Superbowl 49 this match will be just the fourth contest between the two teams in the last 13 years. If those three matches are a guide to the Superbowl, then it will be a close contest between the Patriots and the Seahawks.

In the last two contests, in 2012 and 2008, just four points separated the two teams. In 2012, Seattle scored 14 last quarter points, to defeat New England by a point. In 2008, New England scored 11 last quarter points, to win by three points against the Seahawks.

In four of the last ten Superbowls, teams have comeback from a deficit to become the ‘world champions’.

Statistically the match also looks to be a close one with each team strong in different areas of the game.

The Seahawks are the number one defence in the league and the number one rushing team in the NFL. On the other hand, the Patriots are the number four team in the competition for points scored, and number nine for passing yards in season 2014.

Seattle likes to run the ball, using Marshawn Lynch, to gain most of their yardage. He is number four in the league for rushing yards during the season.

New England throws the ball, relying on Tom Brady to find the right targets up the field. How both defences go shutting down each respective attack will be fascinating in the Superbowl.

With Seattle’s defence being the best in the competition, it will be interesting to see how Tom Brady and the Patriots go scoring against them.

If the Pats can beat the defence, and score consistently, then they will score enough points to win the Superbowl. If they don’t, and the contest is low in points, then the Seahawks are right in the match.

Seattle will be looking to become the first team since the Patriots in 2004 and 2005 to win back to back Superbowls. They would become the ninth team in NFL history to do that.

For the Pats, they are looking for their fourth Superbowl in the millennium, an outstanding record by itself.

The bookies can’t split the teams. It is a genuine 50/50 contest.

It promises to be a close match and a better contest than last year when the Seahawks smashed the Denver Broncos.

I’m going to predict the Seahawks in a close contest. Deflategate, and Brady’s cold, will impact the Patriots. New England will rally around their team, but I see Seattle going back to back.

Tip – Seattle.
