After a bumper competition in 2014, the NRL Nines return to Eden Park in Auckland for a second year. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage of day one of competition from 10:30am (AEDT).

It will be the North Queensland Cowboys looking to defend the only piece of silverware in their cabinet when the 2015 NRL Nines kick off.

The boys from the north defeated the Brisbane Broncos in last year’s final in an all Queensland affair.

They will be hungry to kick off 2015 in strong fashion following their shattering 1-point loss to the Roosters in the regular season’s semi-final last year.

However, the reigning Nines champs will have their work cut out for them after landing in the Green Group, in which they have to face up against the Melbourne Storm, Penrith Panthers and NRL premiers the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Day 1 brings us 16 group matches, meaning we will have a good idea of which teams will be contending the finals by the end of play today. The remaining eight group matches take place on Day 2, before the top eight teams play off in elimination finals to decide the champion.

Incase you’re not quite up with the rule changes for the Nines format, here’s a quick rundown of the rules that matter:
– Nine players per team on the field
– Nine minute halves
– Five tackles per set
– Five players on the bench
– Unlimited interchange rotations
