TWO GOOD! Zahra wins back-to-back Melbourne Cups on Without a Fight as three horses pull up lame

Coolmore Stud’s champion sire Encosta de Lago has been retired from stud duties, ending his career at stud with 23 Group 1 winners, 95 individual stakes winners and a service fee peaking at $176,000.
The son of Sadler’s Wells full brother Fairy King, Encosta De Lago’s racing career was as short as it was brilliant – just eight starts for three wins, and three thirds.
The Portugese translation for ‘Lake Hill’, his biggest win was the Group 1 Vic Health Stakes, netting him $469,050 in prizemoney.
He began his stud career at Victoria’s Blue Gum Farm before being transferred to Coolmore Stud in 2004, with an inauspicious fee of just $8,500 in his first season.
His progeny, which continue to race, have thus far earned close to $140 million across the world, and include the likes of Alinghi, Princess Coup, Racing To Win, Sirmione, Manhattan Rain, ill-fated Northern Meteor, and more recently, sprinter Chautauqua and Hong Kong favourite Sacred Kingdom.
Group 2 winner Rubick is perhaps the best of Encosta de Lago’s hopes for further Group 1 success.
