It’s been a crazy weekend of racing, with almost an overload of action. Let’s take a look at all the highlights.

Berry welcomes parenthood
There was some good news to start the weekend with young jockey Tommy Berry becoming a father after his fiancé Sharnee Nisbet, the daughter of former jockey and trainer John Nisbet, gave birth to a boy.

Kaiden Nathan Berry weighed in at 3.5 kilograms and his father Tommy claimed a third on Mihiri in the Group 2 Breeders Classic on Saturday.

Catkins a ‘good thing’, but only just
Catkins was the red hot shot heading into the Group 2 Breeders Classic on the weekend. But she only just scraped in ahead of Lilliburlero to claim her second consecutive Beeders Classic for trainer Chris Waller.

From the looks of it we may have seen the best of Catkins, but she showed she still has some fight in her, but had it not been for a masterful ride from Hugh Bowman there was a certain boilover on the cards.

Brodie shows his worth
Brodie Loy continues to show why he is a great up and coming jockey. He kicked home a double on Friday night at Canterbury with Wildenstein and Sinjoren, and then continued his good form on Saturday with a win on Bubero at Rosehill on Saturday.

Second up syndrome for Pajaro?
It’s a rare occurrence that we see a favourite run as poorly as Pajaro did on Saturday. He loomed on the outside on the turn before failing to even threaten in the straight. Mind you, Waller favourites also struggled on Friday night at Canterbury in a rough showing for punters.

Kris Lees on fire
Newcastle trainer Kris Lees has Protectionist in his stable and the man of the moment can really do no wrong it seems. Lees booted home six winners across three separate race meetings in an impressive display.

Marple Miss won at Rosehill, Artibai was successful at Doomben while he had four winners at Newcastle with Knit’N’Purl, Land Grant and Danish Twist and Who’s Next.

Sadly for Kris he made the trek to Sandown to see if Moment of Music could take out the Inglis Classic.

Too much racing!
It’s not often I say there is too much racing because I love it. But there is just too much to keep your eye on! They were racing them in all parts as well. Surely there has to be a better way, sometimes less is more.

Walcha Cup boilover
Walcha held it’s annual Walcha Cup meeting on Friday with a good card for such a small place, and some class country jockeys making the trip to the country town.

It was Leanne Henry though who had the last laugh kicking home 50-1 shot Latitat in the annual Walcha Cup.

Ride of the weekend
Hard to go past Kerrin McEvoy on Tales of Grimm and he didn’t panic at all when the horse missed the kick. It was a top ride from one of the best in the business and it also showed that Tales of Grimm might be worth watching.
