The FFA has postponed tonight’s A-League clash between Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory at Suncorp Stadium due to the wind and rain hitting the Queensland coast by Cyclone Marcia.

The FFA said they made the call after advice from the Queensland Government and the Queensland Police and consultation with authorities in Queensland, Brisbane Roar, Melbourne Victory and Suncorp Stadium.

“We have decided to postpone tonight’s Brisbane Roar v Melbourne Victory match at Suncorp Stadium due to safety concerns and also out of respect for all of those in Queensland facing the potential disaster of Cyclone Marcia” said A-League head, Damien de Bohun.

“FFA liaised with a broad range of stakeholders including the Queensland Government, police and emergency services and we received consistent information that we would be putting players, fans and staff at risk if we played the match.

“Residents in south east Queensland are being advised by Queensland police and emergency services to stay indoors so it is inappropriate for us to play a football match tonight in these circumstances.

“We are also mindful of taking emergency resources away from the disaster areas in south-east Queensland and feel it is the appropriate action to take in the interest of public safety.”

No date change has been decided, with the FFA to make an announcement regarding the rescheduling of the match at a later date.

AAP have reported the game has been rescheduled for April 15.
