The Western Bulldogs host the Richmond Tigers at their spiritual home of Whitten Oval this afternoon for the 2015 NAB Challenge. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 4:25pm (AEST).

Footy is back in Melbourne’s suburbs as the NAB Cup kicks off in Victoria for 2015, with a full house of 10,000 expected at the Kennel.

These two teams viewed the off-season very differently. The Tigers looked to build upon their emphatic run home and dismal elimination final loss, while from the Dogs perspective it’s been about development and the right reinforcements to improve on team dynamics.

The Bulldogs recruited one of the most exciting stars in Tom Boyd from Greater Western Sydney, in a straight swap for two-time best and fairest winner Ryan Griffin. Boyd, Joel Hamling and Josh Prudden will make their first appearance for the Bulldogs.

Luke Dahlhaus, Matthew Boyd and Robert Murphy are a few of the many stars that will be making their return to action in a very strong Bulldogs line up.

After finishing 14th the last season, the Bulldogs will view the NAB Challenge as an opportunity to regain confidence and morale within the team.

The Tigers have selected seven players recruited from the 2014 National Draft, in a very young and inexperienced list, with the team chosen being referred to as an ‘under-23 side’. Brandon Ellis and Nick Vlauistin are the key experienced mentors to these younger players.

Another experienced player is Chris Knights, whom the Tigers welcome back after seeing the majority of 2013 and all of 2014 from the sidelines due to a knee injury. Meanwhile Taylor Hunt will make his first appearance in yellow and black after transferring from Geelong over the summer.

If you need to be further convinced as to how inexperienced this Tigers line up is, Steven Morris will skipper the side in the absence of Trent Cotchin and vice-captains Brett Deleido and Ivan Maric.

With All-Australian full back Alex Rance left out, David Astbury will most likely play as the Tigers key defender. Astbury only managed eight senior games for the Tigers last season and a solid performance in defence against the Bulldogs could see the 24-year-old regain his place in the Tigers line up.

Bulldogs fans will be very keen to see what million-dollar man Tom Boyd has to showcase this afternoon, who will hopefully be the recipient of some exciting inside-fifty deliveries from the likes of Wallis and Dahlhaus.

The Tigers will be eager to see what tall forward Liam McBean has to offer. After being drafted in 2012 and standing at 202 centimetres, McBean who has a very similar playing style to Joe Daniher, has spent his time at Punt Road in the reserves, where he scored an impressive 37 goals last season. The 20-year-old will be looking to impress selectors as a mobile forward and hopefully debut sometime this season.

The Bulldogs will be out to prove to themselves and to their fans what they are capable of in 2015. With a very strong and experienced line-up, the Bullies should secure victory at their spiritual home.

Prediction: Bulldogs by 30.
