Defending champions India are a win away from being the second team after hosts New Zealand to book their spot in the quarter finals, while the West Indies will be looking to get a win after the mauling they received in Sydney from South Africa. A win for India will secure their spot in the quarters before any other team in Pool B, while a win for West Indies will count for far more in confidence than in pool points as they look to recover from their thrashing at the hand of South Africa.

The last time the two sides met India won comfortably, but that series will be remembered for West Indies pulling out of the tour due to issues with the WICB.

India will be looking to continue their winning momentum after gathering wins against Pakistan, South Africa and the UAE.

The West Indies on the other hand are looking like a bits and pieces team which haven’t yet hit their stride at this world cup.

Despite struggling throughout the Australian summer, India have been one of the best sides in the tournament; their cricket overall has been top notch with the only concern being the lack of runs from the lower middle order.

The West Indies sit at the other end of the spectrum, having a patchy tournament to say the least. After losing to Ireland they were brilliant against Pakistan and Zimbabwe before then losing by a whopping 257 runs against South Africa.

If consistency is used to judge the outcome of this match, India are certainly deserved favourites. However, the inconsistency of the West Indies could become an advantage if India arrive at the WACA banking on a win.

The West Indies squad can be incredibly damaging when on-song, and it is near impossible to judge when that side with show itself.

Will it be today in Perth?
