After accounting for St Kilda last week by 3 points, Brisbane have continued their good form in the 2015 NAB Challenge with a comprehensive win over Sydney, who looked underdone for the majority of the match.
It was a contest that highlighted how important preseason matches are.
Brisbane, who played last week, looked better than Sydney, who were playing their first.
Once Brisbane got a lead at the start of the match, Sydney struggled to comeback, and couldn’t get close to the Lions.
It all started well for Brisbane as they kicked the first goal of the match.
Sydney responded immediately but Brisbane were able to kick away in the first term.
They kicked two more goals to create a 15 point lead at quarter time.
In the second half they held off a comeback from Sydney to extend the lead to 21 points at half time.
Josh Green and Daniel McStay kicking two goals for the Lions.
The Swans came back in the third term and reduced the margin to 13 points with a nine pointer to Lewis Jetta.
Just as it seemed they would get right into the contest, the Lions would kick one goal before three quarter time, to bring the margin back to 20 points at three quarter time.
This goal ended the momentum of the Swans and the Lions ran away with the contest.
They would kick two more goals to just one behind to win by a comfortable margin.
On another day, Brisbane would have won by more, if they kicked straight.
Their run was fantastic and the pressure in defence was strong.
For Sydney they suffered with ball movement and a lack of fitness in the squad.
For as good as Brisbane were, Sydney wasn’t at their best.
They did have some good moments and Kieran Jack, Josh Kennedy and Daniel Hannebury had good games for the Swans.
New recruit, Isaac Heeney, also impressed with 14 disposals.
For Brisbane, Tom Rockliff, James Aish, and Dayne Beams, all impressed for the Lions with plenty of disposals.
Daniel McStay also looked to be a good option up forward as he kicked two goals.
The only concern for Brisbane was a late shoulder injury to Lewis Taylor and a corked thigh to Mitch Robinson.
They will now face Gold Coast in their final hit out at Metricon Stadium on March 20.
Sydney will face Fremantle next week at Drummoyne Oval.

This season will be all about redemption for the Sydney Swans as they try to bounce back after their grand final loss to the Hawks.
They were comprehensively beaten by Hawthorn and have spent all of pre-season trying to bury the demons of the grand final defeat.
This will be the third match held in Coffs Harbour in the pre-season over the last 12 years – in 2003 the Swans played Carlton, and followed that up with a match against St Kilda in 2011.
Today they face the Lions, who defeated the Saints by three points in Burpengary, Queensland, last week. It could have been more had the Lions kicked straight. They scored 16 behinds and had eight more shots than the Saints during the contest.
Dayne Beams, their prized recruit for 2015, had 25 disposals while Daniel Rich, who returned from an ACL injury, got 20 disposals. Lewis Taylor, the 2014 NAB Rising Star winner, kicked two goals and had 16 disposals.
They will face a tougher test today in the Swans, who have 15 of the 22 players from last year’s grand final playing. Only Jarryd McVeigh, Lance Franklin, Adam Goodes, Ted Richards and Kurt Tippett are out of the match.
In the youth department, Sydney has named eight players who haven’t played an AFL game, including Isaac Heeney, Abe Davis, Jack Hiscox and Lewis Melican, who were recruited to the club at the end of last year.
Brisbane have made three changes to the team that faced St Kilda. Stefan Martin, Tom Cutler and Liam Dawson are in for Archie Smith and Harris Andrews. Allen Christensen, who signed from Geelong, will sit out until the final game of the NAB Challenge.
Prediction
With the talent in their squad Sydney should win the match, but Brisbane will give them a nice warm-up.
Sydney by 18 points.
