Expansion of the A-League is a much-discussed topic, with franchises from Canberra, Geelong, Tasmania and Wollongong suggested. But what about Liverpool?

Imagine 35,000 fans packing out a newly constructed stadium in Liverpool, where a city the size of Canberra is expected to be built over the next 20 years.

The time is now for the FFA and the City of Liverpool to expand into the area.

Colours and Badge
Just like their English counterpart, Liverpool’s home kit will be red. Red shirt, red shorts and red socks. Red for danger, red for power.

The club’s away kit will be yellow, identical to the away strip currently used by the seven-time FA Cup champions.

The new franchise will adopt the red shield with the liver bird placed inside it, the badge used prior to changes made in 1992.

Stadium
A new $300 million stadium will be built on the land at the Whitlam Leisure Centre, land which has previously been nominated by the Liverpool council to house an elite sporting stadium for the region. The stadium will seat between 30,000 and 40,000 people and will help to grow Liverpool as a region as it looks toward the future.

It has been proposed that the stadium will have a roof and will convert into a convention and exhibition centre, similar to the University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona, which hosted the Super Bowl last month. The grass is unable to be damaged when you stage conventions as it is on rollers that can be wheeled out into the sun, making for a true multipurpose venue.

Training ground
Training facilities will be built at Carnes Hill, which lies just eight kilometres west of the new 35,000-seat venue. The facility will feature a training ground, high-performance centre and the club’s headquarters.

Support
Liverpool FC has over 600,000 supporters in Australia. In 2013, the club played against Melbourne Victory as part of their LFC International Tour in front of almost 100,000 fans. They expect capacity crowds in Brisbane and Adelaide this July as they return to Australia as part of their 2015 pre-season.

Sydneysiders will form a new group of Kopites, and will unite before the start of each game to sing the club anthem – “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.

Rivalries
The club will establish a rivalry with Melbourne Victory, who currently serve as a youth academy for the English football giant. With a huge supporter base in Melbourne for both clubs, the rivalry will be sure to divide Melbourne just as effectively as a local derby.

Western Sydney Wanderers will form another derby, with a battle to be formed to determine who is the best club in Western Sydney.

Sydney FC will create a third rivalry for Liverpool FC, with the two clubs to battle with the Western Sydney Wanderers, in a tri-series of Sydney derbies to claim the title of best club of Sydney.

Ownership and finances
The club will be backed by American sports investment company Fenway Sports Group – owners of MLB giants Boston Red Sox and the new franchise’s affiliate club Liverpool FC.
