You would not believe it. Apparently our expert tips went down so well last weekend that they’ve asked us to come back again, put the blindfold on, spin around the broom 10 times and pin some results to a couple of teams.

Round 2 sees some showdowns so delicious that even AFL tragic Bruce McAvaney will be salivating.

There are some tough ones to pick too, with Cronulla facing Brisbane on Friday night, Wests Tigers versus St George Illawarra at Campbelltown, and Canberra and the Warriors at GIO Stadium.

But there are two matches that stand above the rest this weekend – and no, one of them is not Penrith up against the Gold Coast in Bathurst.

ANZ Stadium will host two rivalry matches with Canterbury battling Parramatta on Friday, and old foes South Sydney and the Roosters aiming up Sunday.

It will be another wonderful weekend of footy.

Tips: Sharks, Bulldogs, Panthers (powerplay), Sea Eagles, Rabbitohs, Raiders, Tigers.

“What a great week of tempestuous encounters on the horizon. Souths vs Easts, Manly vs Melbourne and Des Hasler vs City Hall will have us gorging on spiteful aggression and petty mind games until the cows land.

“The Dogs’ doyen will refrain from hunting touchies long enough to formulate a mugging of the high-flying Parramatta, Newcastle and Melbourne will thud back to earth, and Souths will prevail on weight of beef in the battle for Coogee.

“As for powerplaying, I’m gambling safely on the Panthers this week. Confidence is high that they can account for a club with stress ulcers in leafy Bathurst.

“The rest of the games are coin flips, so you’re better off listening to someone else who knows what they’re on about, perhaps a coin?”

Mary Konstantopoulos
Tips: Eels, Broncos, Panthers (powerplay), Storm, Cowboys, Roosters, Warriors, Dragons.

“Seemingly easier than Round 1 but I am tipping a few upsets.

“The Broncos will surely smarten up after their questionable use of Corey Parker as replacement hooker against the Rabbitohs last week. What was Wayne Bennett thinking? I am tipping them to buck up against Cronulla.

“The Bulldogs versus the Eels is one of the matches of the round. I would argue that these are two of the most formidable forward packs in the game. I was very impressed by the power of the Eels and tip them to cause an upset.

“The Rabbitohs versus the Roosters is the match of the round and one that will keep us glued to our seats. Both were impressive in Round 1 but the Roosters were simply awesome so I’m tipping them this week in an upset.”

Tips: Bulldogs, Sharks, Panthers (powerplay), Storm, Cowboys, Rabbitohs, Warriors, Tigers.

“Bit of a bumpy start to the season with my tipping, so I’m hoping I – and a number of teams – bounce back in Round 2. To that point, I see the Dogs and Cowboys putting their terrible Round 1 performances behind them, and hitting back with impressive victories.

“Bunnies versus Chooks should be a cracking game, but I’m picking Souths by a point. In the others games, the Sharks will suck marginally less than the Broncos, Melbourne will run riot on the Sea Eagles, the Warriors will have too much talent for the Raiders, and the Tigers should beat a Dugan-less Dragons.

“Finally – at last – I may be aboard the Panthers bandwagon. It only took me a year! And I’m so confident they’ll be the Titans that I’ve made it my powerplay.”

Tips: Eels, Sharks, Panthers (powerplay), Storm, Cowboys, Roosters, Raiders, Tigers.

“Roosters over rabbits? Raiders over Warriors? Yes, I’m an idiot.”

Apparently Cronulla vs Brisbane is the 9.30pm Friday night game on Channel Nine; hopefully Money Train or Lethal Weapon 3 is playing on GEM. Going to tip Brisbane here, purely for the fact that they might be able to scratch out 20 points.

I really do think Manly can beat the Storm at Brookvale. If any team can come through adversity, even for just one week, to beat an old rival, it’s Manly.

And in a great game of footy between two great teams, I’m going with the Roosters over the Rabbitohs.

(By the way, if the Warriors don’t win this week, I won’t be tipping them away from home ever again.)
