VRC hoping to break Melbourne Cup crowd record

Tickets to the 2015 edition of the Melbourne Cup are already on sale, the earliest tickets to Australian racing’s biggest event have ever been on sale since the Victorian Racing Club was established 150 years ago.

In an attempt to create better value for its customers the VRC is offering 15% off tickets for the four day carnival, starting with Derby Day on Saturday, the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday, Ladies Day with the Oaks on Thursday, and Emirates Stakes day on the final Saturday.

Adults who buy tickets to all four days under the early bird offer will save $33, with punters who buy general admission tickets before October 16 scoring the discount.

The tickets are on sale more than 229 days before the 2015 Cup is to be run.

VRC Acting Chief Executive Julian Sullivan said the VRC has listened to its customers and was hoping that better valued tickets would lead to a growth in attendance across the four days.

“This year we are not only giving customers a better value experience at Flemington but allowing interstate and international visitors more time to book their flights and accommodation while at the same time securing a great value ticket option,” Mr Sullivan said.

“Market research showed that our customers want all hospitality and ticket options on sale at the one time and we have listened to them.

“Ticket prices have not increased in three years and with the early bird offer … the Melbourne Cup Carnival has never been better value.”
