Sydney Roosters prop Martin Kennedy has been given until Friday morning by the NRL to decide whether he will stand down over allegations of the possession and attempted use of banned substances.

Kennedy was issued with an infraction notice by the NRL on Wednesday and a decision on his immediate future was expected to be made on Thursday.

However the NRL has granted the 26-year-old an extension until Friday, with a decision likely mid morning.

“A decision in relation to the possible suspension of Mr Kennedy is expected on Friday morning,” an NRL spokesman told AAP.

Kennedy can voluntarily stand down or face being provisionally suspended by the NRL, before he fronts the NRL’s anti-doping tribunal, which is chaired by an independent legal official, Ian Callinan QC.

The 82-game NRL forward faces a two-year ban from rugby league if found guilty.
