Match Result Well, if you turned off at half time you missed a cracking fixture, the Lions came back from 13-0 down to defeat the Rebels 20-16.

Warren Whiteley was easily the best player on the ground he was a mountain for the Lions, he laid an amazing amount of tackles tonight.

One aspect for the Lions was turning defence into attack, they did it twice and scored some crucial tries, Harris in his 50th game got the yips and missed three kicks for goal he would usually make. Lopeti Timani was subbed at half time when he looked to have gotten back in form, it killed the Rebels at the breakdown as Cummins didn’t bring the same intensity.

All in all it was an entertaining fixture and the Lions are deserving winners here tonight.

Lions 20 defeat the Rebels 16.

Match Preview

The Rebels will look to win consecutive matches and keep their finals aspirations alive when they host the struggling Lions in Melbourne. Join us for live scores and commentary from 7:20pm (AEDT).

The Lions, while struggling, aren’t the worst team in Super Rugby this year, and have won one game on this tour so far.

The Rebels are back in form, with a win against the Force away from home having won consecutive away matches for the first time in their history.

But you have to go all the way back to Round 10 last year for the last time the Rebels won at home.

It is practically unheard of to speak of a home ground dis-advantage, but the Rebels will be close to developing a reputation if they can’t pick up their game at AAMI Park.

The Melbourne side also has the worst lineout success rate this season, with a 78 per cent completion rate. However they have won the most average scrims of any team so far this season and only two teams boast a better scrum percentage.

The Lions have missed fewer tackles on average than any side in Super Rugby, and captain Warren Whiteley has made an astonishing 68 of 69 tackle attempts to lead the competition.

However the Lions are averaging a miserable 0.6 tries a game – the worst in the competition by a fair margin.

Prediction
Despite their poor home record the Rebels have too much fire power in this game, and with their new coach they look much improved in 2015.

Rebels by 10.
