Match Result

Scoreline: Storm 36-18 Sharks

Storm just too clinical in attack tonight for the Sharks who finished strongly after trailing by 30 points at one stage. Cronulla outclassed yet again in Melbourne and they continue to search for that first win. Storm looking good early in the season and they will be difficult to beat at home yet again.

Only a missed conversion from Cameron Smith deprived Melbourne of the opportunity to complete yet another memorable comeback against Manly last Saturday.

Trailing 24-6 at halftime, the Storm rallied superbly but eventually fell short by just two points in another epic contest between two great rivals.

Despite their strong second half, Melbourne’s defence was opened up far too easily in the first half against the Sea Eagles and they will need to strengthen this part of their game if they hope to make the finals.

If the Storm show up with solid defensive discipline tonight, they should be too strong for the struggling Sharks.

Cronulla didn’t score a try in their 10-2 defeat to the Broncos last week. New recruit Ben Barba is having a difficult time sparking the side in the halves and there are major concerns about his inability to rediscover his superb form from several seasons ago.

If Barba can’t ignite Cronulla’s attack, the Sharks will continue to stand alongside the Dragons as the worst attacking teams in the NRL.

Given their limitations with the football, Cronulla will look to keep this contest as physical as possible. They certainly have the pack to win an arm-wrestle against Melbourne, particularly if Paul Gallen and Andrew Fifita lead from the front.

Cronulla on their day can out-muscle plenty of teams and if they can dominate upfront tonight, we should expect a low-scoring contest.

The Storm though showed plenty of attitude in their second-half performance against Manly and they should be favoured to build on that effort against the Sharks.

Storm by 14.
