Golden Slipper winner Vancouver won’t get a chance to attempt two-year old racing’s Triple Crown, with news the colt will head to the paddock and spell following his convincing Slipper win.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained juvenile is off to the spelling paddock, not racing again until the Spring carnival, according to reports from Sky Sports’ Andrew Bensley.

Bensley reports that Waterhouse says Vancouver has done everything asked of him in winning Golden Slipper, and will be aimed at big Spring three-year old races, including the Golden Rose, Caulfield Guineas, and possibly even the weight-for-age classic, the Cox Plate.

Vancouver’s jockey, Tommy Berry, was effusive following Vancouver’s dominant win and told the world that the son of Medaglia D’oro would take the Triple Crown.

However, his stallion prospects look set to be tested further in an exciting upcoming career as a three-year old.

In other racing news, the Chris Waller-trained Brazen Beau won’t be competing in the TJ Smith, instead heading to Royal Ascot without a further run.

“The TJ Smith may carry more prize money ($2.5 million) but I think the Newmarket is the best sprint race in Australia,’’ syndicate manager Grant Morgan told Racenet.

“I don’t think we need to race him in the TJ to prove that he is the best sprinter going around.”

Morgan might be right that the Newmarket will be proven as the best sprint race, however, under weight-for-age conditions in the TJ Smith, Brazen Beau would’ve had a much harder task at hand to win in a weight turnaround against the likes of Lankan Rupee (4.5 kgs), Terravista (2.5kgs) and Chataqua (1.5kgs).

Connections have made a sensible move in avoiding the weight-for-age scale – however – calling Brazen Beau the best sprinter ‘going around’ is bold.
