The AFL has announced that the Greaters Western Sydney Giants have been hit with a $10,000 fine for failing to lodge adequate paperwork with ASADA on the details of the players.
According to the AFL anti-doping code, clubs must provide the addresses of all players to ASADA for testing requirements. If there is a change, then the club must advise ASADA.
AFL General Counsel Andrew Dillon said the Giants had failed to notify the AFL of change of address details, and so had been slapped with the fine.
“All clubs have a requirement to be fully compliant with all the paperwork requirements of the Anti-Doping Code to ensure that ASADA is fully informed at all times and can perform its duties,” Mr Dillon said.
“In this instance, it is important that the rules are fully complied with and a financial sanction is appropriate,” he said.
Giants General Manager of Football Operations, Graeme Allan, said it was an error in administration that led to the failure to keep the AFL informed.
“We have a strong commitment to upholding and adhering to the game’s integrity framework but we acknowledge that a basic administrative error has resulted in player addresses not being communicated properly.”
