Tigers are the AFL's dark horses

While I’m a Hawks supporter, I have always had a soft spot for the Tigers. They try hard yet always seem to just miss out or fall at the first post – 2014 was a true show of taking the hard road.

For most Richmond fans, the start of 2014 season was a nightmare, sitting below Melbourne and the Giants after 14 rounds.

Then the win against the Saints came, kick-starting one of the most astounding recoveries of the last decade winning the next nine games – including wins over Port Adelaide and the Swans – to push into the eight.

Now it begins again for the black and yellow. They will be hopping for a better start to the season and with their first four games against Carlton, Western Bulldogs, Lions and Melbourne, 3-1 or 4-0 would be the aim. If they play like they did for the last half of the 2014 season the latter is entirely possible.

Some people think the Tigers are not at the level of the Hawks, Cats, Swans, North Melbourne and Port. But as a Hawkthorn supporter, the games against the Tigers can be the most nerve-racking, as they seem to rattle the Hawks. In 2012 Richmond gave the Hawks their worst loss for the year, beating them by 62 points. Then in 2013 Ricmond were the only other team to win against the Hawks during the regular season, other then Cats.

The Tigers can dominate, as evidenced by the nine straight, and they will be around the fifth or forth come finals time as long as they start 2015 the way they ended 2014.
