Scoreline: Sea Eagles 16-29 Raiders

Manly fought hard in the last 10 minutes of the contest but it shouldn’t mask what was a poor performance from the Sea Eagles en route to a deserved 13 point loss to Canberra. Manly were just flat and the Raiders took advantage despite a poor start. Canberra turned up ready to play and this win proves that, when they get it together, they are a team that can cause plenty of headaches. Will the green machine finally fire for the rest of the season?

NRL action returns to the country as the Manly Sea Eagles play the Canberra Raiders at Albury’s Lavington Park. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 5.00pm AEDT.

With both sides staring down the barrel of four defeats to start the season, Manly and Canberra should be expected to show up with plenty of intensity this afternoon in order to get their campaigns back on track.

The Raiders have lost three straight matches which included last week’s poor 34-6 defeat to the Roosters.

Manly meanwhile are coming off a poor 12-4 defeat to the Dragons.

The halves will most likely dictate which team wins today.

Blake Austin and Daly Cherry-Evans are the players that ignite Canberra’s and Manly’s attack respectively and they both need to perform for their respective clubs to stand a chance of winning today.

Austin has been in good form for Canberra, making 13 tackle breaks so far which is more than any other half in the NRL. Cherry-Evans meanwhile already has 5 try assists which is equal first with Adam Reynolds and Corey Norman.

The preceding statistics prove that the performances from Austin and Cherry-Evans today will play a leading hand in deciding which team wins this afternoon.

Canberra though do have an important advantage in the goal kicking department. Manly are missing their only goal kicker in Jamie Lyon while the Raiders possess the excellent Jarrod Croker.

Although Manly have won nine of their past ten matches against Canberra, Croker’s goal kicking could very well give the Raiders a key edge over the Sea Eagles.

Manly do start warm favourites but they have lost their aura of season’s past and the Raiders are a good chance of causing the upset.
