Jacob Loko has been banned for four NRL matches by Canterbury, and fined $10,000 over his role in a late night fight with Manly’s Jorge Taufua in Sydney’s CBD last month.
CCTV footage emerged of the ugly incident on March 21, that was the subject of an internal investigation by the Bulldogs and the NRL Integrity Unit.
On Friday the Dogs meted out punishment to Loko, who joined the club mid last year but is still yet to play first grade at Belmore.
“This punishment is intended to reflect the seriousness of Jacob’s misconduct and the fact that he is a young athlete genuinely in need of help,” Bulldogs chief executive Raelene Castle said in a statement.
“The Bulldogs believe that 150 hours of Community Service adds significantly more value to society and Jacob’s personal development, than terminating his contract.
“This course of action was determined in consultation with the NRL Integrity Unit and gives Jacob the perspective he needs to work on behavioural issues.”
Along with the four-match ban, which with matches already served with make him available for round eight Loko was further sanctioned with:
* 150 hours of community service
* A total alcohol ban with random alcohol and drug testing option for the club at any time
* Compulsory continuation of counselling and education programme
* $10,000 fine with $2,500 suspended
* Immediate termination for any future breaches of the Club Code of Conduct
