Jordan Spieth will take a four-shot cushion into the final round of the 79th US Masters at Augusta National, despite a double bogey and three bogeys in the third round.

Yesterday Spieth broke the 36-hole Masters record with 130 shots, one less than Raymond Floyd in 1976.

Today he broke the 54-hole record of 201 set by Floyd in 1976 and Tiger Woods in 1997, with 200.

The 21-year-old Texan from Dallas has modelled his game on Texas legend Ben Hogan, but to this point Spieth has turned in such stunning performances even Hogan didn’t match.

Spieth shot 70 today with seven birdies, a double and three bogeys, while Charley Hoffman, Phil Mickelson, and Justin Rose had a great day-long battle to decide who will be in the final group tomorrow with the tournament leader.

The 16th hole sure helped the Mickelson cause sinking a monster 60-footer for a birdie, matched by soon after by Rose at the same hole, holing out a long bunker shot for his birdie.

In the end Rose came home in 31 shots for his 67 with seven birdies and two bogeys, to exactly match the Mickelson stats for his 67.

But Rose finished at 12-under, Mickelson 11-under, and Hoffman 10-under, so Rose will join Jordan Spieth in the final group.

World number one, Rory McIlroy, shot 68 with an eagle and four birdies, but bogeys on 16 and 18 denied him a well-deserved 66.

The same could be said of Tiger Woods with six birdies, but bogeys on 14 and 18 denied a 66.

While Ian Poulter shot 67, with five flawless birdies.

So the leaderboard reads:
Jordan Spieth – 16-under
Justin Rose – 12-under
Phil Mickelson – 11-under
Charley Hoffman – 10-under
Tiger Woods – 6-under.
Kevin Na – 6-under.
Kevin Streelman – 6-under
Rory McIlroy – 6-under.
Dustin Johnson – 6-under.

Of the four Australians who made the cut:
Jason Day is at 4-under after a 71 that included four birdies and three bogeys.

Adam Scott is at 1-under, carding a 74 with four birdies, a double, and three bogeys.

John Senden is at 1-over with a par round 72, that included an eagle, two birdies, and three bogeys.
