Has V8 Supercars made a terrible mistake?

We currently live in a world were we see bad decisions made every day, by politicians, by administrators, by companies and by fans.

However, when people allowed one of Australia’s most iconic sports, V8 supercars, to be moved from free to air television for reasons of profit, they killed a part of what was a great sport. They should hang their heads in shame.

My family and friends have been long time lovers of the sport. Around 20 of us would go to events and buy merchandise, but we see no point in following a sport that you have to pay for and only see once every three or four weeks.

If you pay for a Foxtel subscription to watch the V8s, that works out to be around $150-$200 per V8 supercar event, for my family’s four houses buying four Foxtel subscriptions.

If this continues the sport will die due to lack of exposure, and the kids who watch with their parents now will find something else to watch and support. If the parents don’t get Foxtel, a generation of fans will be lost to V8s.

I guess when Ford and Holden manufacturing left Australia they took a big part of V8 Supercars with them. Brocky would turn in his grave to know the sport he loved so much has been so ravaged by poor management.

I understand that the teams will also profit from the Foxtel deal, however it must be concerning to the current sponsors of these teams, due to their product or service not reaching the audience numbers they have experienced in previous years.

If these companies and sponsors are not reaching their target audience they will go to a sport that will.
