Did we just witness the longest ever goal in football?

Charlton Athletic’s under-18 side believe their goalkeeper, Dimitar Mitov, has just kicked the world’s longest ever goal.

The current record was set by Stoke player Asmir Begovic in 2013 and stands at 91.9 metres.

Mitov kicked his goal from inside his own six-yard line, and to the naked eye appears to out-do Begovic’s effort.

Guinness World Records have been called in to analyse the footage and determine whether the record will be reset, however Mitov must now wait up to 12 weeks to receive the official results.

Whether his goal breaks Begovic’s record or not, Mitov can still take great pride in his achievement, as the goal proved the difference as Charlton claimed a 2-1 win against Coventry City.
