FIGHT PREVIEW

Lyoto Machida takes on Luke Rockhold in a middleweight super fight, with the winner likely to earn a shot at the UFC title. Join us on The Roar from 10am (AEST) for live commentary and round-by-round updates.

Second-ranked middlweight Lyoto Machida is one of the most feared strikers in the UFC.

Winner of five of last four – with his only loss coming via a close decision against the champion Chris Weidman – ‘The Dragon’ will be desperate to run through Rockhold and earn another shot at middleweight gold.

Coming off a devastating first-round TKO win against #11 CB Dollaway, Machida has shown that he was incredible power since moving down weight classes, and the former UFC light heavyweight champion will be eager to prove that he can achieve that feat at different weight classes.

Since his UFC debut loss to Vitor Belfort, Luke Rockhold has been on a tear in the octagon. The fourth-ranked middleweight has finished his last three bouts in dominant fashion, with two of those wins coming in the first round.

After a dominant submission win over popular veteran Michael Bisping in Sydney last year, Rockhold believes he is the true number-one contender at middleweight, and a win over Machida would put him in prime position for a shot.

Machida and Rockhold are two of the best fighters the UFC has, and this contest could be a fight of the year candidate.

Prediction
Lyoto Machida via unanimous decision.

Can Lyoto Machida earn himself another shot at UFC gold, or will it be Luke Rockhold who stakes his claim? Join us on The Roar from 10am (AEST) to find out.
