According to rumours circulating, many Premier League clubs have put their hand up to be in the mix for the services of Netherlands and Newcastle United great Tim Krul.

The number one goalkeeper for Newcastle United has managed to obtain praise from fans throughout the entirety of the season, despite the Toon’s horrible form. Krul seems to know no absence of form. As the ols saying goes, ‘class is permanent’, and so it is proving for Krul at the back for Newcastle.

Krul was outstanding for his nation as they battled it out to the semi final of the most recent World Cup before being knocked out by an extremely confident Argentina side.

The Dutch international rose through the ranks of the Magpies’ squad, and came to challenge former number one Steve Harper. Harper was getting on in his age, and Newcastle United and Alan Pardew knew that they would have to act quickly in order to obtain the services of a well-rounded goalkeeper who was willing to risk it all in order to prove he had the guts to keep number spot.

Krul proved perfect for this after only a few games played for the black and whites.

Newcastle United would have to rely heavily on a fairly inexperienced Rob Elliot if they are to sell off their arguably most valuable asset in order to stretch out their spending wings towards a variety of other positions.

John Carver has not seen much of the transfer window and if his current form continues then he may never see another transfer window working under Newcastle United at all.

Newcastle have been known not to shy away from the controversial circumstances in transfer windows in recent years. They regularly sell and buy players at their own discretion, with fans and pundits left with their mouth open, asking ‘why’.

So Newcastle United should hope that if they sell Tim Krul they would be in with more than just a chance to buy another quality goalkeeper instead of relying on their next choice. Developing players is great, but deliberately leaving yourself short in a position only leads to lack of depth within a club. Injuries, form, lack of back-up and overplaying unfit players for each match can be disastrous for a football club.
